Bid Day Promises of the Future and Memories of the Past

Bid Day Promises of the Future and Memories of the Past

It is hard to believe that it is time for Bid Day again!  I can’t wait to welcome a new class of fabulous ladies to our sisterhood.  It is a time for looking forward, as these ladies are the future of our organization; but it is also a time for looking backwards and remembering our own bid days.

I was a pledge (yes, we were still called pledges back then) in the Fall of 1994.  I remember standing in a long line in the student center (before it was remodeled) to receive my bid card and the delight I felt when it said Alpha Gamma Delta!

I have a faint memory of riding to the campus lake with some of the older girls in a red car (I think it was Stacey Phillips Shoman and Gretchen Duncan) and there may have even been someone thrown in the lake that day for being recently engaged (perhaps Lynn Heintzelman Cullen?).  After the class photos were taken we went to the Cantina (that’s pretty old school, but I have some great memories of that place) to eat with our entire pledge class.  Some of those girls would soon become life long friends.

Even though we may lose touch with some of our sisters throughout the years… we all share a unique bond.  Take a moment today to reach out to some of your long lost pledge sisters! I encourage you to comment here and share your own favorite bid day memories!
